The Great Prayer Project!

Our mission is very simple.

On November 5, 2009, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, shot and killed 14 people, including himself at Fort Hood.

On April 16, 2007, Seung Hui Cho murdered 33 people, including himself on the campus of Virginia Tech.

On April 20, 1999 saw the infamous Columbine High School Massacre, which culminated in the loss of 15 lives.

Perhaps the most well known mass-murder, the one that stays constantly in the back of most American minds, occurred on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York City, NY. The New York Times reports that 2,752 lives were lost to that attack.

Each of us were stunned when we heard about these terrible losses and rightly so. They were truly horrific! And it seems that everyday, we hear a news report of another twenty or thirty deaths or more from the war in Iraq, and our hearts mourn—again rightly so! But, my friends, we must be diligent to remember another massacre – one that occurs every single day in many countries around the world.

Its death count outnumbers Fort Hood , Virginia Tech , Columbine and 9/11 many times over every single day!

As you may have guessed, am referring to the 130,000 innocent lives taken every single day through abortion all over the world!

If you’re reading this, chances are you already active in the fight against the evil of abortion. They are certainly as many ways to fight as there are people fighting, but there is one way that we can all fight!

We can all pray!

Now before you decide that prayer is not active enough, consider a few words from Sacred Scripture:

“The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful.”
-James 5:16 NAB

Trusting the Word of God, we know that prayer is powerful, and most likely, you have already been praying for an end to abortion for years! With that foundation laid, allow me to introduce you to The Great Prayer Project!

The Project was born first out of a great belief that every fetus is without doubt a human life! Knowing the hideous assault on the innocent unborn, we had a desire to play a part in the fall of this great evil! But what can we do? We wrote to our lawmakers and supported local Pro-Life causes and worked the Right to Life booth at fairs and conferences, etc.

Is there anything else that can be done?

Finally, a particular verse of Scripture seemed to reveal that there is indeed something else that we can do! Take a moment and read these verses. Luke chapter 18:1-8

Upon reading this, the thought occurred to me: How powerful would it be if every time a woman was considering an abortion, no matter what time of the day or night, someone was crying out to God! Asking the Holy Spirit to help her realize that she was carrying child in her womb and to help her love her child?

Thus The Great Prayer Project was born!

Our mission is very simple. We want to cover every single minute of one entire year in prayer for an end to abortion beginning March 25, 2010!

This date was chosen because of its significance on the Liturgical calendar. March 25 is the day that Catholics and other “liturgical” Christians celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord when the angel Gabriel announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary that she would be the mother of the Savior!

“How does it work?” you might ask. Well, that also is very simple. Beginning January 1, 2010, you will be able to visit our site www.luke181.com and choose a twenty-minute time slot between 12 midnight on March 25, 2010 to the same time on March 25, 2011.

Let us know which time you are choosing and as long as everyone keeps their commitment, we will have every minute of that year covered!

Now, we know that not everyone is in the habit of praying in a focused way for twenty minutes at a time, so the website will include a few tips to help you out with that if you need it! Of course, if you feel like taking on several slots, feel free to do so!

Please join us in the fight against abortion and take just twenty minutes out of your time to cry out to God for this important cause!
